The two Champion generators I see are:

73540I 1700 watts continuous, 2000 starting watts. Reduce power output by 3-4% for every 1000 feet above sea level assuming car is properly jetted for that altitude. You'll need two to have ac with reserve capacity for basics.

75531i 2800 watts continuous and 3100 starting watts at sea level. Should be ok at lower elevations but you may want something that has 3000 watts continuous and higher starting watts.

I think that two of the 1700 watt (labeled 2000 watt) generators in parallel would be a good option

You may want to consider the DB noise level of the champion.

A friend and I have Champion 2000w inverters and like them. Tiny difference in sound than the Honda/Yamaha, if any. As stated, it will not run air conditioning. It will do most everything else, even if you have to stop some items (coffee maker) to run others (hair dryer). We have run ours in tandem for air conditioning. Worked well.

It's a nice quiet machine. I would certainly recommend it for occasional use. For heavy usage I'd prolly go Honda.

Do you think I can run my microwave off the 2000w cube if most every other large power robbing device is off-line?

There are charts (Google) where you can see what common appliances pull so you can get an idea what you can run simultaneously. We bought a stainless steel carafe at Wally World to keep coffee hot so could shut down the coffee maker after brewing.

The OP is asking about Champion's inverter generators, not their open frame contractor generators.
Their inverter generators are nearly as quiet as the H & Y units.

I'm seriously considering a reman. I found one for $399 shipping included. Unless there's a compelling reason to go new, I'd save around $100.

I had a Champion 3500 for one season and it was quite noisy, even with an insulated box with which I covered it. I sold it and bought a Honda 3000i for the next season and I kept it under the same box just to keep it out of sight and for protection from the elements. The Honda was so quiet you hardly knew it was running. You really get what you pay for.

A 2000 watt generator will run everything except the AC unit. I have owned Champion generators for years. I bought one of the 2000 watt inverter generators and got a smoking deal on another one a few weeks later from Sams Club. I bought the parallel kit online and it works great! Runs the AC and most everything else. I pop the 120v breaker for the fridge, that can run off Propane. I think for the money they are a great buy. A friend of mine has the Honda 2000 watt inverter generator, and you cant tell the difference sound wise. You might also check out: 3100W Inverter Generator - Champion Power Equipment I bought one of these as well when I bought my camper I LOVE IT! The remote start is awesome! I plan to eventually mount it so all I do is plug it in when I get to where I am going. It does not burn that much gas and is very quiet. Amazon had the best price, under $1000 including shipping and I got it in 3 days. Read the manual, when they say clean the spark arrester screen they mean it! The 2000 would not run, the spark arrester was covered in soot/ clogged, cleaned it out works like a champ again.

Thanks for all the reply's. I pulled the trigger on a brandy new Black\yellow Champion 2800w\3100w from Costco online. They have a pretty good deal going on right now, $799 - $100 instant savings from manufacturer = $699 with free shipping. I'm in a damn state tax state so I had to add another $44.45 totaling $ 744.44 delivered. That's a lil' more than I was budgeting for initially, but it's ONE unit to keep an eye on with ONE carb to care for keep clean with just a few more decibels... 58db-vs-53db. Now, I'll be able to run one of my air conditioners without issue and having to couple up or stack two generators to do that. The Youtube reviews on this generator were real good. We shall see.

For everyone comparing noise ( sound) level of generators, 6db more is twice as loud.

Champions

I own two of these with the parallel kit and I have had a great experience.

With one, I am able to run everything except the AC (15k BTU one). Of course, I do run the water heater on propane while dry camping.

They are as quiet as the Hondas. I have used them at NASCAR races and other large venues. Get tons of people stopping by just to see the quiet little 'yellow' (as in not red) generators. I swear I could sell these things out of my truck bed when people realize how inexpensive they are. Have run them for days in dusty conditions with no problems.

The idle feature allows the motor to slow down (reducing noise and fuel consumption) and they easily make it 8 hours at night... Typically running out of fuel right when it is time to get up anyway.

Two of these babies together are just like plugging into 30A at a campground and all for about the price of one Honda.

My only complaint is that when you have two paralleled, and you only need one (say at night) it is impossible to shut one off without kicking the other into overload. I think it is the parallel electronics more than anything else. No big deal, just shut it off and restart it. More of a pain than anything.

Best of luck to you!

Congrats. You'll really like it. I use mine at home for power outages, too. Typically for refrigerator, chest freezer, drop lights, fan.
