Clicking

New to forum, recently getting a clicking noise from behind circuit panel under closet in bathroom. I have an 2015 8289 fifth wheel and don’t know what the noise is?

Tell us which division (Rockwood, Sabre, Wildwood, Wildcat, Cedar Creek) made your unit and we'll put your thread in a more likely sub-thread.

Also, can you tell us what else is going on when you hear the clicking? Turning on furnace, water heater, LED lights, etc.?

Along with the requested information, how often do you here this clicking. Is it a one time click? is it slow clicking. Is it rapid fire clicking? By circuit panel are you referring to the Main Breaker panel?

Clicking

It’s a Rockwood 8289 fifth wheel. The clicking is slow and repetitive. We think we found the critter in the black box behind latched door it’s a relay switch that has to do with Microwave and fireplace. Can anyone verify said part. Does it pull out and replace, looks like a 9 or 10 dollar part

Could it be the ignitor for the gas water heater?

From your description, it appears to be a load sharing relay... to keep your unit from powering the fireplace and the microwave simultaneously. That exhausts my knowledge - but I am moving this thread to the Rockwood sub-forum. [Oops, it's already been moved to General Tech and Repair.]

Yes, it is just a common relay more like $ 10-$15. As stated it is a load sharing device. Manufacturer cheap way of not installing a 50 amp service. Very safe way of doing it.

my question would be why is it clicking? shouldn't it either hold the contacts at either the microwave or fireplace setting and then stay that way?

The way they're supposed to work is both loads are powered all the time. The Primary Load (Fireplace) is powered whenever the secondary load (Microwave) is not drawing full power (MW clock/controls only). When the secondary load is turned on, the primary load is disconnected and the secondary load is powered. Then when full power to the secondary load is turned off, the relay switches back on the primary load.

If the relay is steadily switching between the loads (clicking) then it's either faulty or the current threshold is set too low.

If the unit is under warranty, I'd let the dealer replace it.
If it's out of warranty here's a replacement for it. Automatic Load Shed

'Cause it's broke? Contact might be burnt preventing complete contact. Holding coil burned or worn out? Spring broken? Many reasons.

I just looked at the manual for the Parallax ALS 20 and if that's the unit you have, then it has a two year warranty. If you have another unit check the warranty even if the RV is out of warranty.

Did you happen to be using the microwave when you noticed the clicking?

Clicking

Well after some legwork by a great friend and finding the part on Amazon our clicking from the relay switch is fixed. The entire box is available on Amazon for $67. Had it shipped and in an hours time was replaced. Now both fireplace and microwave are up and running. So let it be known don’t operate microwave while fireplace is running. This was in a Rockwood 8289 !!

Thanks for coming back and letting us know that you got it fixed. So many times we never know the outcome.
