Dexter Exterior Door Outside Screw Trim Cover

My Dexter exterior door uses a vertical trim piece to cover the outside screws. It recently bowed and I bought the replacement from Dexter. It is supposed to snap in place but I've been unsuccessful no matter how hard I push it. I'm thinking the next step is dish soap for lubricant. Anybody else come across this? Note LCI uses a similar but different trim piece.
