If it is some kind of residue from a sticker you might want to try Skin-So -Soft from Avon, this what i use and it comes off easy and will not hurt the finish sureface.

I've tried some of the cleaning products, but no luck. I'm not too concerned about the discoloration as it is very hard to see. What I am worried about is whether it will continue to grow and will it weaken the wall?

I may be off base here but it looks like it could be a glue stain...

If it is, it is probably cosmetic only, a boat shop or body shop could tell you if they could buff it out...
