Things change.
Many vehicles can be started with a shank key.

Everything has a price.
Just be glad you are not buying a Mercedes proximity key...

I was at Ace yesterday. They didn't have the blank to do it. Their computer did not list a key for the Promaster 3500. It did show a key for a Dodge Ram 3500. It was felt thst would not work.

Maybe I should take a chance and try to have one made on the blank they have.

This is a 2015 ram 3500 key.

Not anything like yours.

Your key is from the fiat side.

I've read on the Ram forums that attempting to start a Ram with anything other than a factory/dealer programmed fob will cause the entire system to shut down. The only way to reset it is to have a dealer interface the truck with the factory network (like they do when programming accessory codes). Very good theft deterrent.

I bought the extra fob when delivered ($125, IIRC) and keep it hidden in the cab. They didn't charge to program it. Have an Ace Hardware cut key hidden outside the cab which is only used to open the door.

Seems a $250 key for a $100,000 coach is a pretty good deal IMHO.

I have the same key fob with the door key hidden in side. The key ring that is attached to the fob is attached to the door key that pull out when you pull/push a small lever back to release the door key. Dealer programmed fob to start the truck and cut the door key for me that I bought thru the internet with no problems.

Hope This Helps Tim

Your perspective makes sense but it is still an outrageous cost. It came with two sets of keys; I like to have a third set for contingency.

Go back to your dealer and ask for a " valet" key. It's just a shank and transponder head. No remote door unlocking. It's number 2 in the pic.
