These units have a history of poor reliability and are fairly expensive to have repaired. I'd told you can buy a refurbished unit for a couple hundred bucks where a new replacement will be "north" of $400.

Could be a loose av cable (yellow wire at back of TV). Try reconnecting. Can also try connecting the same cable to a different TV to verify that it's the DVD and not a TV issue. (Blown TV can still do sound without picture). Temporary fix; run to a walmart and grab a $30 DVD player if needed in the short term.
Cables could also be mixed, verify they are all connected at both ends in the right order, red w/red white /white, and yellow/yellow. 1 right audio cable will give you sound in either left speakers, or right, but not both.
Source must be set to video with the remote, it does not do it automatically.
