While camping this week end a camping neighbor had a problem with squirrels chewing on his rubber hoses to his propane tanks and unfortunately lost all of his propane. Another neighbor suggested to coat the rubber hoses with WD-40, he said this would keep the squirrels away. Fact or Fiction?

squares? Back in high school, we were mean to the squares...this could be there getback! Be carefull

Did you means squirrels ?If so i would think that would work got to taste bad to them.

The squares are nowhere near as bad as the rounds!

Sorry! I`m sure you meant squirrels. I guess WD40 would work. I`ve never had this problem so I can`t really say what would work.

I've heard of tree rats (squirrels) damaging LP hoses.
It has not happened to me so I'm not going to get crazy worrying about it.
Life is full of things that can go wrong. I'm not going to loose sleep over
most of them until/unless they hit home.

I've also heard where folks who had this problem got stainless steel braided hoses.
I'm not sure if they were made that way or they added the stainless steel braid
to their existing hose.
It would be possible to remove the braid from a hose such as a washing machine
hose and slide it over your LP hose. I didn't say it would be easy but it's do-able.
I'm pretty sure you can go to a custom car/truck shop and buy the SS braid.
They put it over all the hoses under the hood of a vehicle that they are "tricking out".

I'm pretty sure the squares can't chew thru SS wire!

Just use rat poison. I haven't yet heard of any of the alternative techiques working. Some friends of ours had a mouse problem while they were out camping. Someone told them to use fabric softener sheets in the compartments to keep them away, they just used them for bedding and they ended up with springtime fresh mice! They went all around their trailer spraying something (again I think it was fabric softener) doesn't work. Most of these remedies are cooked up by idiots. Go with the tried and true. Poison or traps.

The pet shops have some stuff called bitter apple, or similar products that you spray on your dog's fur to keep them from biting at their fur- it's supposed to taste horrible- maybe that would work for you!! Just a thought.... Randy
