Frame Tongue Repaint

My wife and I just upgraded to our first travel trailer, 23DD Cherokee Lite. We are more than excited! This forum has been of great help to answer a lot of our questions. So I figured I'd add to it!

The tongue on our trailer, a 2007, has surface rust all over it. I talked to a local RV dealer and they said they just use good ole rustoleum. I picked up some Satin Finish Rustoleum and hit the tongue w/ some 80, 100 and 220 sand paper and wala! Looks new again!

Nice work.

I burn up a few cans a year of black enamel keeping surface rust at bay.

It's cheap and keeps your rig looking new.

Nice job.

I did the same on my '06 Rockwood TT(sold). The factory paint doesn't seem to last too long.

One of the dealers we were looking at rv's at was painting all the tongues and pinboxes and rear bumpers of all the used tt's on his lot, they were bead blasting and using a spray rig, looked pretty darn good, made the tt's look that much better that is for sure.

I'll probably do the same w/ the steps & A frame of my TT.

The paint they use can't be that good as my TT sat on a dealer's lot for a year & it's been at my place for a year now. I don't think many of our trailers are subjected to salt which is the bane of frame paint.

Has anyone tried POR 15 automotive frame paint?

POR15, Inc. - Stop Rust Permanently - Repair Gas & Fuel Tanks
The fellow that did the body work & repaint on my Monte discussed it.

How did the finish look? I take it you brush it on rather than spray.
