Furnace/heat pump

We have a 2018 Cardinal fifth wheel. We used the furnace and heat pump for the first time this weekend. Two separate questions...
First with the furnace, the thermostat is set to furnace and the fan will cycle on and blow warm air out of the floor vents, then cycle off. The entire time there is cold air coming from the round ceiling vents. Also, the furnace never completely shuts off, there is something running the whole time although not as loud as when the fan is blowing. So why is there cold air coming from the ceiling and why does it never shut off completely between cycles.
Second the heat pump, when I turn the thermostat to heat pump I only feel cold air out of the ceiling vents, it does not turn warm at all.

First question, if you have a digital thermostat and don't want the air coming out the ceiling A/C vents, set the fan (in fan mode) to AUTO.
This is a feature provided so the A/C blower distributes the warm air (that rises) throughout the coach. Having the fan on AUTO will stop this feature.

Second question, if the ambient temp is near the 40º mark, the heat pump is very inefficient and will not make warm air. Even when the heat pump is working, it can take minutes for warm air to come out the vents. How long did you wait?

Great response and exactly what we have experienced in our Cardinal. Heat pump worked flawlessly as long as the outside temperature was above about 40.

The thermostat is digital but does not have an auto setting.
The outdoor temp was above 50 degrees.

Could you tell us what model # you have and maybe post a photo of the 'stat?
Information such as system/appliance manufacturer and model #'s will garner you better responses.

Otherwise we are just guessing and giving suggestions based on past topics.

From page 7 of the Dometic Digital thermostat manual...

"Mode Selection
Press the On/Off Mode button to advance through the available modes. Each successive press will advance to the next available mode. The green LED will indicate the mode selected. Depending on the systems installed, your choices will be Off, Fan, Cool, Furnace, Heat Pump or Heat Strip. See "Mode Description" on pages 8-10 for more information on modes. Fan Speed Press the On/Off Mode button until the fan green LED is lit. The LCD will show "Lo" (Low), "Hi" (High) or "Au" (Auto). Press the "+" or"―" button to select the desired fan speed. See "Special Features"on page 11 for more information on Auto Fan.

From page 8 of the manual...

"Furnace" - Furnace Mode

In this mode there are 3 fan speed selections:
Lo - (LOW): The fan operates continuously at low speed.
Hi - (HIGH): The fan operates continuously at high speed.
Au - (AUTO): The fan will be OFF.

Note: If additional indoor air circulation provided by the air conditioner is not desired during Furnace Mode of operation, select Au(AUTO) in the Fan Mode to shut the air conditioner fan off. If Lo(LOW) or Hi (HIGH) is selected the air conditioner fan will continue to operate on the selected speed.

As I cycle through the modes auto is not a choice on this control. I have the same control in the front of my coach but it runs the low profile AC only, no furnace or heat pump and it has an auto selection. I’m stumped.

Auto is located in the fan speed section when in Furnace mode. I read that wrong a lot of times, my wife read it and said check the fan speed section. We special ordered a heat pump on our Cedar Creek. So it came with this style stat.

If you let everyone in on the fix, it helps others with similar issues.

I used the link to the manual online and the diagram and description on there helped with the series of buttons I need to push.

Someone please correct me on this if I'm wrong: From what I know an RV air conditioner, whether Dometic, Coleman, or Advent, are not true "heat pumps" as residential air conditioner/heat pump systems are. A residential A/C/heat pump has a reversing valve which allows the refrigerant to be pump backwards therefore capturing what heat may be in ambient air. I was taught that an RV A/C unit with "heat pump" configuration has an electrical heating element, much like an electric space heater, that has air flowing over it to create warm air.
