Furnace not working - Problem and solution
Hi everyone,
Thought I would make a post here just in case anyone experiences the same problem I just had.
I had a mobile RV repair person replace my noisy fan motor about a month ago. The unit worked fine before his repair with exception to a noisy fan. After the repair, I had had this problem... (Furnace shuts off before reaching desired temperature and then you have to turn off the thermostat and than back on again to reset and get the heat going again)
My mobile RV repair person spent 1/2 of a day trying to fix this and in doing so took out my circuit board and I had purchased and replaced my digital thermostat prior to his coming out as per his recommendation.
During the first repair of the fan motor, as the repair guy was taking the whole furnace assembly out of the surrounding metal case and putting back in, the gas valve was catching and hitting on the metal casing a little roughly. Can not prove that this was his action that took out this part but I am left with this bad feeling that it was connected.
I switched the thermostat and the repair guy tried the circuit board, high limit switch and the motor (the motor as the whole thing worked fine before this original part was replaced). We could remove the front metal face off the furnace and the unit would work but as soon as we replaced the plate back on, the unit would do the same thing (run for a few minutes and then shut down).
During his 1/2 day fixing attempt, he took out my circuit board and put in the new than back to my circuit board as it did not change or solve the problem. After he replaced my circuit board back in it stopped working altogether and he now had to replace my circuit board with the new again.
SOLUTION: Had to remove the furnace and replace the gas valve.
Expensive day ($400 for first replacement of fan motor - $600 for replacement of circuit board and gas valve).
Hope this will help someone diagnose their repair in the future.

Another perfect example of why people need to learn how to do their own work.

Second repair - Circuit Board & Gas Valve Replacement Nov 22, 2011...

I was watching the whole time. If there is ever a problem again with the furnace, I have pretty much watched every part being taken out and replaced and will not hesitate to do the repair myself.
