I'm assuming your onboard generator is an Onan, which has a fuel pump.
I would start with the simplest check: the generator fuel filter. Also, when it quits, check the fuel drain to see if it is dry or if there is fuel still in the bowl.
Next I would investigate the tank outlet, fuel line, and venting mechanism (vented cap?).
When the generator runs out of gas, can you get fuel out of your fueling station? Does it have it's own pump and filter, or is it gravity?
Have you searched the Onan (assuming it's an Onan) site for your problem?
Others have suggested looking at oil level/sensor and overheating. Although three hours is a long time to run for a sensor problem.
Good luck!
