This seems to be a favorite GPS. After doing my homework and reading a ton of posts I got one and very impressed with it. It does have a learning curve to it but There is not much it can't do. As part of your investigation, check out the cost of updates ( both software and maps). For some the updates are free while others charge

Yes the 760 LMT has lifetime maps AND traffic alerts.
LMT stands for lifetime maps/traffic alerts.
To upgrade the maps you need access to a computer/laptop. (Usually about once a year.
The traffic alerts are source monitored services that are sent to the GPS unit via various methods.

AFAIK, software updates are always free. If your unit has an 'LM' suffix on the label on the back, it has free lifetime map upgrades. An extra 'T' means it does live traffic too (this may not be on the label but if the cord has an extra odd bulge in it, that's the traffic receiver - mine doesn't have the T but does have the bulge in the cord and live traffic works).

Download the Garmin Express app, connect and add your unit and it will find whatever updates your unit is eligible for. I have 3 Garmins: an RV760, Nuvi 50 and Nuvi 2555. When doing the map updates, do the RV760 first because that is a superset of the maps for all the others and it will download far less when doing them.

Do any of the GPS units tell you which fuel stations you can fit in to?

We have the Garmin 760LMT AND the Rand McNally 7715. Surprisingly, they disagree significantly about 30% of the time. It's not unusual to have one say turn right while the other is saying turn left. So, my recommendation is two GPS units (different brands) and a good map such as available in book form at truck stops.

Not sure about GPS unit but the iExit app shows rv friendly fuel stops in yellow at each exit. The paperback book The Next Exit does the same! Use both on occasion, still use the Garmin Nuvi with free upgrades.

Keep in mind that a RV specific GPS will many times run you around the block to avoid a left turn into a campground. You can balance this by reading the campgrounds directions. I know of one place in Flagstaff where my GPS was telling me to go around the block when I was looking at the enterance to the left directly in front of me and another time in Savannah where I was taken on a two mile detour in order to make a right into the campground when there was actually a left turn lane to enter. Your RV GPS will error on the side of safety.

I also have the Garmin 760 for RV
Has everything you mentioned.
Took it last Oct on a six state trip and worked like a charm.

However always take a backup that does not involve electronics. Old fashion atlas is what I carry.

When I got my 760 I spent about 3 weeks playing with it at home to learn the features I wanted to use.


I planned my trip to Spartanburg SC first. Then searched for campgrounds with the features I wanted. Then knowing it was too long for me to drive in one day I found out how to find where I would be in 5 1/2 to 6 hours. Then I figured out how to find a roadside rest so I could sleep free over night. It found me one about 6 hours from home with no problems. It also showed a few cg about 6 hours out in case I wanted to stay a couple of nights instead of just an overnight stay. I then played using a few other features I might have wanted. I was very impressed with it. It just takes a little playing to get use to all the features that it offers.
