Hooking up to electricity at home
Is it okay to hook my trailer to my home electricity with a heavy duty extension cord, like the kind used for the outdoors? I just want to get my refrigerator cold and that would be about the only thing I would be running?

I keep mine hooked up all the time while not being in use. That way if I want to escape the house for a cold beer, it's ready...LOL

I recently installed an electric box at the house. It is the same as what you find at campgrounds with 50 amp, 30 amp and 20 amp service. I now can safely run anything I need or want, including the AC.
You might check into doing the same. It's worth it!

Hey Gary, you've got a great set-up there. Actually nicer then some campgrounds we've stayed at.

Thanks Charlie. It's came in handy a time or two already.
Last weekend we set up the pup for our visiting grand daughters. We had to run the AC since the temps were reaching the mid 100's during the late afternoon. We wouldn't have been able to do that just plugged into 20 amp at the house.
We also are currently running the AC on the tt. Cleaning and loading the tt, getting things ready for the FROG rally next Wednesday.

I would address you by your name but you don't post it. I plugged my TT into a wall outlet in my garage and smoked the extension cord and popped the breaker. (Revealing my ignorance to the quick criticism of some posters, HAAAA!!) All I wanted was power to keep the battery charged and the refer cold. Once I turned off all the non-essentials at the TT breaker panel I was OK. I have talked to a neighbor who is a retired machinist and does wiring/electrical projects on the side, about wiring my garage with a 50 amp connection. So it's in the works. You can also go online and there is a website that gives a detailed, w/ pictures, description of wiring a 30 or 50 amp connection.
My TT is 30 amp and thats the way I was going to wire but then the light went on and I realized why run 30 when you may as well run 50. Then if you ever upgrade or buy a new RV w/ 50 amp you'll already be set. For the 30 you just get one of the power adapters for 30 amp TT to plug into a 50 amp connection.

Thanks to all that replied. To Glenn did you ever figure out why your extension cord and breaker were affected?

You need to find out why that hapened. There is no reason for what that to happen. Without turning on the A/C you should easily be able to run on a 15 amp circuit with an extension cord ( a good one). We have done it many times and it is all I run on at our family cottage with a 100 foot extension cord. We can even run the A/C on low as long as everything else is off.
On the other hand when I built my new garage I put a 30 amp RV plug outside (for use by us or any visitors with an RV) and one inside in case I need to make repairs or have a service person come by.
It is an easy upgrade at your home and relatively inexpensive as you do not need outdoor or underground wire so long as it runs from your panel directly into a sealed outdoor box.

Sorry for jumping in on the conversation, but what's the best way to hook in to home electricity with my 50amp cable from my motorhome? Would I just use my 30amp adapter with a 30-15amp dog bone?

They make pig tails to suit the 50 30A services. These are a good idea and cheaper to replace than the rest of your gear if someone walks off with it.
