Hot water

hey folks, first trip of the year strange thing happened setup, turned on the water heater we have both gas and electric heater i usually start with the gas as the water seems to get hot quicker then change to electric, well water heater quite running and THE WATER WAS LUKEWARM AT BEST so it turned on the electric then went kayaking, we returned several hours later still the water was just warm, me being curious lifted the pop valved on the tank ans the water uwas hot enough to burn you. but still just warm at best at the faucet. anyone ever had this happen.

To answer your question -- about 20% of us from reading posts about lukewarm water (you can search for lukewarm and get some hits).
The most common cause is that the water heater's bypass valve is still in bypass mode from winterizing. That causes cold and hot water to mix before exiting faucet.
The second most common cause is the outside shower valve are left on but the shower head is turned off. This can also cause hot and cold water to mix.

Not a bonehead move, it just happens. It's hard to remember everything from winter to spring. It's also why we keep the thread that Dan pointed to at the top of the plumbing section, as a reminder. It's a very common thing to forget.
