I have found there is an epidemic of this going around these days.

Adding another one lower down is an option. Not one I personally would tackle as I would be too worried about drilling into the jack screw.

Since you will only lube the gear once a year, I would remove the motor lube the Zerk, and put the motor back on as part of my pre-season duties.

You may have a slightly bent jack screw. I bent mine (a little) when I was a little low on a hook up attempt and pushed my camper off the front pads when it did not hitch.

I thought if I hit it one more time it would latch. (mistake) It should hook CLEAN, if not you are not aligned correctly so don't force it!.

If the jack screw still works (like mine does) get used to the sound (I have) or be prepared for a very expensive repair bill.

it made me look again. the only way i can see to get grease in mine is thru the top. the top caps come off.
what is inside the leg, a long all thread bolt? if that is the case, ur going to have to pump enough grease to make it down to the nut.

there is a cover on both sides that allows grease to be packed in. the one on the motor side is not easy.

a suggestion on the certs, if they are hard to get to, remove the cert and install a flexible grease tube (or pipe it) so that u can get to it.

the motor and gear box look like they are sealed.

you may try putting the tube of the spray grease in one of the holes in the leg and see if u can spray it up to the active component. (the height adjustment holes).

Nigel, I had the rig at the dealers to get the ladder installed, no fittings to lube the front jacks, and they dont put the fittings on new rigs, but no can tell me why or how to lube them, we even looked at a new 2012 with the same floor plan and nope not one on it, but again no can explain to me why or how to. I don't have caps to take off to lube them. I'm at a loss now.

Thanks Herk, I ended up pulling the right side bolt out of the shaft, this allowed me to slide the motor to the right and then twist up. Just enough room to get the grease gun on it. Greased the he'll out it so hopefully I won't have to do it again until next year.

Michael thanks, do you know what make yours are, maybe I can contact the manufacturer to ask the question?

Great thread. Just looked and I have fittings, would have even never checked without reading this thread. How much grease should I put in?

Mine are flat on top no grease zerks but looking closer there is a hole about 1\2 inch from top you put a small screwdriver in hole push slightly and the hidden cap pops up and you can see the gears an a small dab of grease I can put more on now that I found the cap.

I put a few pumps when I do my annual overhaul. Then I run the landing gear through its full travel to distribute it. A wipe down of the legs and you are done.

For all the guys with no zerks!

This thing has been bothering me! I bought new specs, (seriously) and I found on top of my towers two flat, thin, metal plates that pry off with a knife blade, switching on the light also helped. I could feel a gear in there so I packed in more grease. Not sure yet how to lube lower down, I will post what I find.

This stirred me into going out to check my landing gear. 2011 Rockwood Signature 8244S. I found a grease zerk at the top of each leg facing the front. Without this thread they would have gone forever un-greased! As for the one near the motor, the zerk is located just below it.

Herk, mine look like that but I don't have zerts just the holes are there. Did you add yours to preexisting holes or you drilled yours then put them?

What you see is how it came from the factory.

I would check to see it the holes are threaded. Bend a paperclip into a "hook" and strum it through the hole. If it vibrates it is threaded.

You can buy Zerks at any auto store and screw them in yourself if the holes are tapped.
