Hydraulic Leak

I bought a used Cedar Creek in February. Shortly later I found a hydraulic leak that gradully got much worse. After searching this forumn and others, I decided to try the suggested fix. I took removed the four bolts holding the tank to the pump, removed the 0 ring, wrapped it with teflon tape and re-installed. Thanks to the person that suggested this: it works with no leaks.

Do you mean you wrapped the actial "O" ring with tape? Or did you seat it with tape?

Did you use a new "O" ring, or re-use the existing one? Did you have to do anthing special to keep the fluid from draining? Also, the fellow I got this from used transmission fluid rather than true hydraulic oil. Is that acceptable practice for these things? I know some kinds of "O" rings - Buna-n for example - are sensitive to petroleum products which might cause them to fail.

Obviously I have the same issue with a used Cardinal I just bought.

Thanks for your help & advice.

According to the manual, I used Dexron III transmission fluid. I pulled the tank, held on by four bolts. It did not have much left in in, so the spill was minimal. I took out the O ring between the motor and the tank and wrapped it completely in teflon tape, pushed it back into the groove and re-installed the tank. I think there is another 0 ring on the other side, but it is only seeping, so I will wait to check it. Hope that helps. I did use the old 0 ring.
