Jensen AWM970 Installed, Pictures

Here is the Jensen AWM970 installed in the Surveyor. It was an easy install; maybe 2 hours from carrying out the boxes to done cleaning up. The Jensen is wider than the ZX500 and not as tall. It barely fit in the space I had available. It is 9 3/4 inches wide and 6 1/8 tall. The difference in sound is dramatic; even with the original speakers. My next step is to try to find some better speakers. Anyway, a HUGE difference and worth the effort and expense.

It seems to have everything the Concertone had; clock, alarm, A & B & C speaker switches etc. There were NO wiring changes. Everything was a one for one re-connection. I left the old Concertone on while I disconnected wires one by one. With each disconnect, I could tell what speaker was being driven. I marked them all. The Jensen had every wire marked; e.g A Left Positive, A Left Negative, so it was then easy to connect with wire nuts. The antenna plugged right in. The only real work was because it required a wider opening so I had to use a jigsaw to cut out the cabinet. Super simple.

Does it do surround sound as well. Price? Can't seem to find where to order from.

I don't believe it does surround sound.
In a space the size of a trailer I don't believe you'll notice much difference
between surround and just really good stereo.

If you search ebay you can find them.
There was a guy several months back that had them for $200.
Most are asking over $300 now.
There's one that's new and it's a bid auction rather than buy now so you
might bid on that one and do some good.

If you're serious you can save a search on Ebay and they will send you an
email when a new listing comes up.

No Surround Sound. BIG improvement in sound quality. Jensen has a direct buy site. Unit price is $299.

Today I replaced 2 of the standard Surveyor speakers (the A channel) with Jensen 5.25" 2-Way speakers. There is better bass and improved clarity. But the bulk of the improvement in sound was in replacing the Concertone. I'm going to replace the B channel speakers but leave the stock outside speakers. I used a white trim ring (8" with an R40 bulb opening) for a recessed light to trim it out. Then mounted the speaker and grill to the trim ring.

Looks great. I got almost an hour out of my Concertone before it pooped out. Before I
duplicate your job, does anyone know of an internal fuse or maybe a reset on the Ctones?

www.jensenrvdirect.com has them for $299 including shipping. They also have the SIRIUS Dock and Play Radio and Vehicle Kit Product #: SV5TK1B that mates with this unit for $60. Not sure if I will need a seperate antenna for the Sirius, but I am going to order the extra Dock and Play mount for my Polaris Razor.

I recently bought a Forest River Wolfpack Toy hauler and and doesn't work from the factory. Phony touch face controls and seems to drain the battery quickly. I'm looking at buying this unit as a result of your recommndations.

I just ordered both to replace the OEM Forest River radio.

Looks super. I have the small Concertone in my unit, and it never has worked right. I'm thinking about a Jensen unit I saw at Camping World. Looks about the same size as my old one with the same features: just CD and radio with ipod input jack. Has anyone had experience with that unit? I know Jensen is quality stuff.

I just won one of these AWM970s on an eBay bid yesterday for $140. Looks like I have a fun Mod coming up in the '291!

Installed my Jenson about a year ago and love it. Have not found any cd or dvd that it would not play. It also has a plug for a remote eye that I installed thru the outside wall. It's great when sitting by the fire. Change tracks, turn up or down or switch from cd to radio and change stations.

Quick question for those of you that switched out the Concerjunk for the Jensen.

When I installed my new Jensen it had 3 power connections. I hooked all 3 up, but notice at night the face plate light is still on when the power is off. Can I disconnect one of the power connections to kill the night light? That sucker is bright!

Not sure whether you can kill that light without losing the clock, etc. BUT, you CAN adjust the brightness of the light. It was bothering me too. Sure enough you can adjust it down considerably. Check your owners manual. It's simple.
