Lack of Wheel Well?

I have recently purchased a 2010 Salem 26TBUD. I had it shipped 2500 miles to my home destination. Along the way, snow, mountain passes ect, the wheel has rubbed and tore through the black under skirting. After investigating I've found that the insulation under the slide out is packed out causing the clearance of the wheel to be 3/4 of an inch. Now I have an area that is torn and full of road grime that will not dry. My last R-vision travel trailer had metal wheel wells. How do you fix this membrane? Is this the way they are building these trailers now, or is mine missing something?

I would say you have a design issue with this trailer. The axle manufacturers recommend a mininum 3 inch clearance.

I would contact customer service at the plant where your trailer was made and explain the problem to them. They should foot the bill to add spacers to raise the trailer up to minimum acceptable height. Not sure what to say about the damaged fabric, I would take it up with the factory.

I agree with John. That's either a design issue or a construction issue. The mfg. should take care of it. I assume it has the artic package is why it has that much insulation but it still shouldn't be that close to the tires.

If that's not bad enough, it's rubbing when the trailer is empty...it will only be worse when you load with your gear!

It sure looks like a design problem! Surely Forest River will take care of it!

I'll take your great advice guys and get a hold of the dealership that I bought it from, and see what they can do. Does the tarp bottom hold up after time? Should I have aftermarket wheel wells installed to be on the safe side?
