Landing gear problem

Electric landing gear worked last night but nothing this evening when I was going to rehook up.

Any suggestions?

Check fuses and or a little silver looking thing that is a breaker. Do you have 12v power to other 12v things?

Your landing gear should have an auto reset breaker right behind the switch on most units. The biggest problem seems to be the rocker switch itself. Pretty common problem. Depends on your unit they are all wired differently, Mine is not on a fuse in the panel, pull the switch and check that first.....

My Wildcat has a 30 amp fuse in the same front compartment with the battery. If the gears haven't been lubed, like on my new unit, this fuse will blow. Just follow the wires back from the switch.

My landing gear has an auto fuse in line right in the front compartment by the gear and motor. I'd look there.

Okay, what I learned so far.
1). The fuse is good.
2). The motor works after taking it off and connecting directly to the batteries it turned just fine.
3). No corrosion of any kind around the batteries.
4). It's a Stromburg Carlson unit.

Still doesn't work but I did get a real arm workout cranking by hand...at least that was an option!!!

If the motor is good, the fuse is good then are you getting pwoer to the motor. My gues the switch went. I would also say maybe they were binding up but since you cranked them that is not the case.

I will check the switch tomorrow to see about that. By the process of elimination there isn't much else :-)

Thanks again!

No there certainly is not. But with electricity sometimes elimination is all you got. Make power enters the switch as well to make sure that the wire did not break in the shielding.

Also... Make sure you get good grounds. I find this the culprit many times.

Story comes to this... there is a fairly large black wire that supplies the landing gear power. It comes down from the nose of my 5er down to supply the power for the landing gear.
I have no idea where it comes from but as the landing gear has a 30 amp fuse in line I'm not sure why that wouldn't come from the battery power block. So I cut (and secured) the dead line and did just that and walla, power to the landing gear.

I tell you what, I did learn that I need to have one of everything as landing gear goes in inventory so I can make my own mobile repairs!!!

After way too much arm work, I now carry a spare rocker switch. My switch failed in Colorado last year and I had to manually crank the 5er up and down for three days. Of course down is rather easy. Up? Not so much.

There are generic rocker switches available online and at some RV shops. I went the $$$ way and got a replacement from FR. it was +/- $100, but it is fully wired and a very simple and easy install.

Send a message via Yahoo to bob caldwell
Why don't you put all outside switches in a JR Products compartment...
