Exclamation Lift Cable Broke

2009 Forest River Flagstaff mac 228d Pop-up

Lifting camper and as it reached about 12" up, the cable broke and the roof fell. I found the damage, the cable frayed and broke approximately 20" from the winch. Any suggestions on how to repair or replace this cable? I've heard you can crimp the damaged cable, but i'm afraid that the strength of the cable will be reduced, or the crimp will not fit in the winch housing. I also cannot find any schematics on the lift system and how it works, to better understand how to dismantle and repair it.

Thanks in advance, my 2 year old daughter misses her camper.
