LP detector problem

Last weekend was our last time out for the season. In the middle of the night the LP detector started going off. I hit the mute button, turned off the gas, turned on fans opened the door. The alarm wouldn't stop unless I pulled the fuse in the convertor. We got home Sunday plugged the TT in and emptied it. Tonight I put the fuse back in and the alarm started going off again. Anyone have this problem? It's a Safe-T-Alert White Mini LP Gas Detector.

How was your battery?
The detector will also go into alarm when the battery is low.

My manual says it will need 8.5 volts to operate. You should have a orange led lit if it is low power.

It also says it will alarm for fumes other than propane, like glues and adhesives used in the construction of new RVs.

There is also an internal self check circuit and it it fails a self test, the unit will alarm and there will be NO OPerating light.

We had the same issue with two co2 units, both were bad. Dealer found a problem with the wiring causing the problem with the units

My CO detector was chirping at the dealership when we picked our camper up new. Dealer tried resetting it via reset buttons and pulling the fuse, but ended up replacing the unit.

I have a separate question - My CO detector is below the refrigerator. My Brother-in-Law (experienced miner) questioned its location, as he said that CO is lighter than air and would therefore rise to the ceiling area. Are your CO detectors in 'low' areas of the camper, or are yours mounted near the ceiling? He has me thinking that I should have a second detector up around the ceiling... What are your thoughts?

My CO detector is mounted just below the fridge also.

I would think it would make a diffrence if it was say like a large room but seeing as the area is small it will pick it up - I am no expert in this but just throwing my .02

Whoah guys, Apples and apples here.

We are talking about the PROPANE DETECTOR here, not the CO or Smoke detectors.

The propane detector is mounted low because propane is heavier than air.

The CO and smoke detectors are on the ceilings. Sometimes when folks hear a chirp every minute or so they start screwing with the propane detector thinking that that is the problem, when it is actually a replaceable 9 Volt battery powered smoke or CO that is the problem.

That high pitched beep is hard to locate. The propane detector is powered by the HOUSE battery, not an internal one. The orange fault light or the Alarm light on the detector will be on if the propane detector is in alarm.

Hope that clears that up.

From my experience as a tech, the CO detector is near the ceiling, usually in the stove/kitchen area, since that is where the most CO will come from. The CO detectors also run off of replaceable batteries, like a 9 volt. The LP detectors, are near the floor, once again near the stove, water heater, refer, and are wired in to the campers 12 volt battery and converter. And as Herk7769 said in post #3, must have at least 8.5 volts to operate. The fire/smoke alarm in on the ceiling, usually round, and requires a 9 volt battery. Hope this clears a little confusion as to which detector is doing what.

One last thing, the LP detector on the floor, will have a sticker and date when made, and a recommendation to change it in 5 years.

And what Herk said above, beat me to the draw.

oops - Lou you are right

my smoke detector is mounted on the seiling and the thought the one under the fridge was a CO but you are right it was for propane.
Good Catch on clarifying that

Herk, now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure that my detector is both an LP and CO detector in one. Maybe this is why it's mounted on the floor (LP leak is probably more likely than CO, although CO is odorless). I believe this is the model mine came with (66-8836) - Safe-T-Alert Carbon Monoxide Detector, also LP - PPL Motor Homes

Sorry for hijacking the thread...

CCI Controls Model 7770 Gas Detector - below fridge (Rectangular)
COSTAR Model 9RV Carbon Monoxide Alarm - Kitchen Ceiling (Round)
Universal Model SS-770 Smoke & Fire Alarm - Bedroom (round)

I had the same issue with it going off at 3:00 in the morning scaring my wife half to death. Couldn't get it to reset and the indicators showed it was bad (only a year old!!!) So I have contacted my dealer and they are going to replace under warranty. However my question is how to silence it so it not going off every 5 min . Thought about cutting the negative line till I can get a new one!

Although the CO/LP detector came with a warning label on how to respond in the event of an emergency, it did not describe what all the alarms and lights mean. So I added these onto the label which is posted in a kitchen cabinet. If an alarm goes off it would of course be in the middle of the night, and I don't want to go fumbling through manuals while evacuating over something that might be a malfunction.

For our model, the alarms are shown on the bottom of p. 3 of this PDF.
