LP gas detector problem

My LP detector goes off every now and then. I have left the gas turn off and it still goes off sometimes. I'm guessing it is just a bad detector. Mostly goes off when it is hot with the AC turn off. Anyone else have this problem?

Shelf life of a propane detector is somewhere around 4/5 years. If you are able to find the manual it may give you a clue as to the problem.

An LP detector will detect lots of different gasses not just LP.
I've heard folks say a new trailer sitting closed up in hot weather will cause the
LP detector to go off due to outgassing of the plywood and glue and foam in the
trailer.
I've heard a big dog laying next to the LP detector can set it off with a fart.
No kidding.
I've heard that some LP detectors have short lifespans. Seems like a thread here
some time ago discussed bad LP detectors.

Which problem you have I don't know.

We have maxxair vent covers so we leave a vent open all the time and have never
had a problem with the LP detector. We typically shut off the battery disconnect
switch when the trailer is sitting idle so it can't go off then anyway.

I removed our LP detector on our last trip, it kept going off (usually in the middle of the night or early morning) for no apparent reason. LP gas was off and fridge and hot water were on electric setting. While I was sitting on the floor looking at it I "passed gas" and the detector immediatly sounded off like a champ! So after this I thought the dog was setting it off, we have one dog nicknamed "Tootie" because she toots alot! So yes other gases besides LP will set them off! I guess it works well and I need to hook it back up now!

dog

Well We do not have a dog. The first few times it was when the camper was in the barn. But it also went off this weekend while camping with the AC running. One time it stopped beeping before I could even get to it. Guess I'll check into getting a new one.

I've read somewhere hair spray can set it off and it can also go off when using some aerosol products and the RV is closed up. The advice given was to disconnect it, take it outside, use either a compressor on a low setting of about 35 PSI or a can of Dust Destoyer (aerosol can of air) to clean off the sensor. It has to remain outside long enough for the capacitor to discharge before taking it back in and reconnecting. After doing all of this and it still goes off, then replace the Detector.
