MaxxAir Vent cover Installation

I have two crank up type vents on my 2010 Wildwood... I installed a MaxxAir vent cover over the one in the bathroom as it was easy to accomplish from a step ladder at the rear of the trailer...now I want to install a second cover over the vent above the kitchen area BUT... it is located center line about 10 feet from the rear of the trailer... I can't reach the vent to drill the holes by just standing on a ladder... QUESTION... I am a large man and wonder if the roof will safely support me if I lie on it from the side to reach the vent and drill the holes then tighten the hardware??? Would it be best to place a piece of plywood on the roof to distribute the weight... Ideas?? Thoughts?? maybe I had better take it to the RV man to install it???

First of all, if you have a factory ladder for access to the roof, it's labelled as to it's rating, 300lbs. As far as the roof itself, it's strong enough. I'm sure that when these are manufactured, there'll be more than one person of the roof at once. If you concerned, take a 4x4' piece of 1/2" plywood up there with you to distribute the load.

It will hold you. Go by an RV repair shop sometime. There may be two or three people up on the roofs of some units when they are working on them. You can do as Dave suggested and put some plywood down to help distribute the load.

I run about 250-260 lbs & have been on the roof of every RV we’ve owned without issue. Even the R-Vision.
If you haven’t purchased the second MaxxAir cover yet I recommend getting a MaxxAir II. They have a larger louvered area allowing more air flow & they are hinged so you can easily clean inside.

I got mine @ Amazon for a lot cheaper than the local shop or CW.

I am 225 and didn't go through my roof. If you are concerned go with the plywood. That would also give you something to place your tools on so you don't have to worry about damaging the roof.
I would also go with the MaxxAire II's. They move enough air so you can safely install them over a Fantastic Fan.

I have the Maxxair II's as well, and like them just fine. Others on this forum and elsewhere have expressed satisfaction with the Camco Aero-Flow vent covers.

Lrt's just say I am over 300 pounds and the roof doesn't move when I walk on it!
