Murphy Bed Problem

We have had our trailer a year no problems, this trip could not get the bed down it was rubbing on back wall, after some investigation we could not believe how this bed is attached. The metal frame work was screwed into the nitestand wall with 2 screws that were supposed to hit a 1x1 piece of wood which they didn't on one side so after all our use the screws have torn through the 1x1 board. Thought about taking it in but think we can probably fix it more to our liking with a bigger board and maybe bolts instead of screws. So is anyone else having problems with their murphy? Have they changed the design we wonder? Are we making a mistake fixing ourselves, should we contact FR? Thanks for any help or thoughts!
