Never Lube Axles

1) We purchased a used 2009 31TS this year. The Lippert components were manu. in 12/08 (pin box and axles). I have just finished treating the roof and re-caulking all seams and want to re-pack the bearings. I beleive I have the Never-Lube bearings. I have done internet reading and read about the failure horror stories. Besides popping off the center cap and checking for seeping grease how do I or can I maintain them? Can they be taken out and changed?
2) Just wondering-->GVWR is 12,100#. How do (2) 5200# axles support the GVWR.

If you have a 5th wheel, I would guess that a percentage of the weight of your GVWR is on the pin box, and not supported by the axles.

Do the math. 12100 - 10400 = 1700lbs if your pin weight is far less than this, which I doubt, then your axles are maxed out. IMO your axles should have at least 20% safety margin, seems like you have no margin and worse still you are overloading them.

Why Rv manufacrurers supply the bare minimum beats me. don't get me started on tires!

The GVWR for the trailer is the total weight of the trailer as it sits on a scale. Axle weight ratings are for the sprung weight, the weight the axles are supporting. The scale weight includes the unsprung weight of the tires, wheels, brake assemblies and the axles themselves. So if the trailer scaled at 12,100 and had a pin weight of 1700, the 10400 would be the weight of the tires on the scales (sprung and unsprung), but the unsprung weight of the tires, wheels, brake assemblies and axles is probably 300 to 400 pounds (estimating) leaving the axles supporting a sprung weight of 10000 to 10100 (again an estimate).

This is an example for understanding only as I do not know the specific weights.
