New Flagstaff A/C problems and others

Went away this Memorial Day weekend on our maiden voyage with our new Flagstaff 831FKBSS and found out that our air conditioner dosen't work! Tried closing all the vents and windows for 20 minutes and the temp inside went up 4 degrees. The outside temp was 80 degrees at the time so it went up to 84! Also the jacks on these ultra light trailers is a joke, the bolt that holds the foot plate to the swing down arm bent as soon as there was any weight on it! When we got home I called Forest River (Johnathan Gust) to see if any dealer can fix the A/C since the TT is only 4 weeks old. I was told to contact 1 of the 2 closest dealers to me and he gave me the phone #'s. Sounds great I thought until I tried to contact them, The 1st told me that they couldn't see it for 4-6 weeks as I wasn't a customer who purchased from them , further I was told that the Dometic warehouse had a fire resulting in the loss of all dometic parts! (this was the first I heard of this) and it would be an additional 4-6 weeks just to get the parts if the A/C needed any. The 2nd dealer still hasn't returned my call so I am beginning to wonder what to do next, Maybe I make a stop in at that dealership? The dealer I bought the trailer from is over 4 1/2 hours away so that probably is not an option until all else fails. Any Ideas?

You probably won't like me much for saying this but this is why Forest River recommends that you buy locally. I can honestly see why the other dealers are not super-responsive since you didn't buy from them; probably based on purchase price? Have you called your dealer that is 4 1/2 hours away to see what they say? They may be more responsive to you.

You said that the A/C didn't work when you turn it on, do you mean nothing work at all or it didn't cool?...If nothing came on like the fan then may I suggest to check the breaker.

I would think that any dealer who is an authorized Dometic dealer could do warranty on your AC unit.

Go to the Dometic web site. Link http://www.edometic.com/allusr/srvctr.nsf

For example, I can take my Rockwood to any Dometic dealer to have the recall performed on the refrigerator, does not have to be a Rockwood or Flagsaff dealer.

Hope this helps you get the issue resolved.

BTW, all of the appliances are waranteed by thier manufacturer, not by Forest River.

Sorry, I meant to describe the A/C problem, fan starts and runs, but when the thermostat is lowered you can hear the compressor kick in but the unit never blows cold air only slightly cool. Good point, I may look for a dometic dealer also and see whom can repair this problem quickest as we are getting ready for our next trip in a little over 4 weeks.

Unfortunately RV dealers aren't like auto dealers. They have no obligation to do warranty work on a unit that they didn't sell. That being said, your best option might be to contact a Dometic repair place and see if they'll take care of it for you. Another option might be to pay for the repair and get Dometic/Forest River to reimburse you for it. Probably not what you wanted to hear but options none the less.

Don,
Call (800)544-4881 for a dealer or service center near you.

Some may only specialize in certain product(awnings, fridge, etc...).
