New to Slides

Our 3rd TT, but first with Slides.

Love them! But? How long should I expect they will last before seal replacement is necessary? Visiting in the campground this weekend, the consenous was 7 to 10 years and they will have to be replaced? Some said the dealers in the salespitch will tell you they last forever!

Also what determines if this is an easy job or not? I heard that some slides have to completely come out to repair some models? Forest River Models? Expensive?

Their seemed to be mixed feelings when I asked about lubricants which, when properly applied to the rubber-like gaskets are suppose to lenthen the life of the rubber seals? Anyone use them? Recommend a certain brand?

Another whole can of worms on another forum, is lubricate slides, yes/no, do/don't lubricate? I am throughly confused here? My fellow campground neighbors promote a Lithium spray on my slide rails.
One Quote: The tech that worked on our rig stated we should NOT use anything to grease the slides

We have our TT on a seasonal campsite, so the slides don't see much use. One in and out a year!

Well, I'm not a self proclaimed slide expert....
but I haven't lubed or dressed anything on those slides. Mine stay out until winter hibernation as well. I just inspect them when I put them out in the spring.

Hi Pete,

My neighbor in the campground is a "Full Timer", and has a motorhome (sorry don't recall brand) which is 7 years old. He says his seals on his slides are all weather cracked (but not leaking). He plans to have them replaced at his dealer in Elkhart on the way to AZ this fall.
How old is your Salem, and how our your seals looking?
I guess I was really shocked that they would deteriorate that quickly.
