Onan Generator

I have a 4k Onan that when you hit the start switch the starter engages and immediately disengages and sometimes ,after doing this several times, it will engage and start up. Batteries are good and fully charged. Anyone know what it might be?

just guess. you said batteries are good. how about the cables and connections? are they are clean and tight? a bad connection can limit the power getting from the batteries to the starter. check both the positive and negative cables and grounds. again, this is just a guess.

Could be a bad Bendix on the starter or a damaged flywheel. On small engines sometimes when the air filter gets clogged and it will cause this issue as the engine coughs and the Bendix drops out. I would check the air cleaner first and go from there.
