Overheating awning LED

I just purchased a new 2016 Shasta Revere 27RB ( it sat on the lot for a couple of years)
The awning LED light strip apparently overheated last fall while still on the sales lot, and damaged the original awning fabric (they replaced it). Has anyone had this issue? The dealer told me this was a known issue and that they don't recommend replacing the light strip.
I would like to put a light strip back on as there is no other outside light source, or I will have to mount a light on the side of the trailer.

Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.
