Overly Cautious or Not to worry?

Maybe it is my experience with my boat, but whenever I let it set for more than a week or two, I either disconnected the battery or have used a battery isolator switch to make sure that items that always require power (radio / alarms) don't drain them.... Is this necessary on a new travel trailer with 2 batteries that will set for several weeks without use?

It's a good habit, keep it up.

Yes!!
I always put a battery disconnect switch in my new trailers.
It SHOULD be standard equipment on all RVs.
I shut off the switch when we get home and have cleaned
out the fridge and shut it off.

Cant you keep it hooked up to a battery tender?

I can't keep it on a battery tender as I rent a storage space and don't want to pay an additional $30 a month for the power outlet to be turned on... Maybe in the winter.... If you have installed a battery diosconnect switch, did you use the same type we do in Boats (Perko I think) and where did you mount it for easy access and weather protection?

(I didn't actually buy the one at ebay but if you google
battery switch you find lots of them.)

I mounted it in the toe kick area just to the right of my power
center.
I was able to open a cabinet door, remove one of those panels that's
screwed to the floor and I had access to the wires going to
my power center.
I also pulled the front cover off my power center.
I removed the black + wire from the power center and
hooked that to the switch. I added a short wire from the other
side of the switch back to the power center.
I was a 1 beer job for me cuz I had a hole saw and have done
this kind of job before.

This is what I used on my Surveyor 294. Inexpensive, very easy to install and use. So far it has worked great. All you do to disconnect is unscrew the knob about 1/2 turn.
