We are sitting here in a lube shop and the technical doesn't know what kind of oil to use in the motor of our fr3

5W20 Mobile One is about the best you can do. But the same grade in Valvoline etc. is plenty adequate.

All owners manuals give you the oil brand or equal to the numbers describing the type oil to use.

If it is a Ford,,, I believe they all come with 5w20 blend !!!
You may want to find another Lub Shop ???

I suggest you read up on motor oils and your engine requirements, for the next change. There are factors that come into play, based on frequency of use, etc. Also, your chassis mfg. will tell you what is recommended for your motor.

I don't think we received an owners manual. And as for the lube shop we are travelling in the boonies there are no choices of lube shops you take what u get

Motor Craft SAE 5W-20 or any oil that meets Ford Spec. WSS-M2C945-A lube shop can find a comparable oil. Ford likes you to use their oil more expensive than comparable oils.

Your probably right Jim,,,
Not sure what they would charge for a MH,,, It seams our local Ford dealer always has a oil change special of cars & light trucks,,, I am thankful I am still able to do our own,,, I do not have much trust in those oil change places !!! I use mostly Mobil One,,, because Sam's has it for a pretty good price,,, 6 Qts for about $32 I think ???

On most Ford's it's right on the oil filler cap as to what weight oil to use.

I believe you are right rg,,, but it only shows weight,,, which I think now is all 5 w 20 !!! at least it is on my V8 - V6 & V10 !!! Last I heard Ford was shipping all new cars & Trucks with Motorcraft Blend !!!
At least if I were to take one of my Fords to the dealer for an oil change,,,
I would not have to wonder what type of oil they might be adding !!!
And that they are smart enough not to over fill !!!

The usual oil weight for a ford newer than 2003-04 is 5w 20. The use of petroleum or synthetic is a mater of choice. I have worked in a ford dealer for years and they are all good oils that will provide good results. My personal preference for oil is Amsoil because I run everything I own "until the wheels fall off" and full synthetic will give that long lasting performance. Just remember that there is only a few oils that are true full synthetic. Amsoil Mobil one royal purple are the big names that can be trusted.

I did have a lawn tractor mechanic tell me a couple of years ago that the engine manufacturers said there was no advantage to using a synthetic in a lawn tractor ???
I use it anyway !!!

Valvoline, Pennzoil, RedLine, and a few others. Mobile One has always been rated highest in most all categories. We did dyno testing for Lubrication Sciences and Mobile Labs. All the synths are very good, Mobile One was at the top. I would not be afraid to use ANY brand name synthetic.

He was completely wrong. However, the advantages are EXTREMELY small and hard to measure in typical tractor use. You probably don't use it in the winter, so excellent poor rates and great startup lubrication doesn't help much. You probably don't have a high lift cam with heavy valve springs so no help there. You probably stay well below 6500 RPM, so no help there. So about the ONLY gains you will get is a slight increase in fuel economy when the engine is cool. I would put some high performance parts on that thing to make it worth your while.

I do use one of my tractors in the winter,,, unless my 48" snow blower decides not to work,,, which happen way to much !!!

Great! Then let's put a high lift cam in there with an 1100 CFM carb, a high speed torque converter and spin it up to 6500 RPM. I think we will see some real gains with the Synthetic then...
