Pop up Lids

Don't know if I have the correct terminology for these, but I mean the vents you crank open on the top of the trailer. I need to put up a shelter for my trailer (which will be another thread) but for now I have replaced one of them already by just pulling the pin out of the hinge and replacing the top rather than repalcing the whole thing and having to re seal it all.
The sun here dry rots everything so quickly. I was wondering if anyone painted the plastic cover for protection with anything to add longevity to the life of the plastic.
There are two and one has shattered again and the other seems ok for now but I'm sure is due for replacement.
I have failed miserably at maintaining my trailer and am now paying the price and going through the learning curve.

Thanks in advance!
