Power cord problem?
We have camped alot this summer in oklahoma where it has been hot! As we were packing up from our last trip we noticed one of the power cord prongs were burned and the plastc around it slightly melted. We had no loss of power during our trip. ? Is do we need a new cord (30 amp) and what happened? Our trailer is 6 mos. old.
Thanks
Pam

I'm guessing maybe a "loose fit"; maybe a small gap and a little arcing. Have you been using the ring around the plug (at the trailer) to tighten the connection?

I think there you can replace the end plug so it might be worth it to ask someone at the local RV store or even your dealership service department to find out the answer.

you should be fine. Make sure you get a good tight connection on the park power side. If need be, slightly bent the prongs on the plug to make sure you are getting good contact.

Burned blades should be lightly sanded bright. Use a 600 grit wet and dry paper available at any car store's body repair section.
Burned tips are high resistance connections and get HOT. They use amps that you will need in your camper; not being converted to heat.
The arcing will also cause burn spots in the campground's socket and you will damage every outlet you plug into. Chances are good your plug was ruined by a bad socket caused by a shore cord just like yours being plugged into a "good socket" that was ruined. Help a friend you might never meet and get that plug replaced or at least cleaned up.
NEVER plug in your shore cord plug without turning off the socket's breaker. Plug in; then turn on the breaker. You will arc your plug every time you make or break a connection if you don't.

Make sure prongs are clean and dry.. Dirt can cause all kinds of problems.

like stated above if the prongs are bad you can replace the cable end and call it good for that piece of mind
Connector side = Wire Side
Gold = Black
Silver = White
Green = Green

Our cord was damaged like yours last summer by a loose fit at a run down campground. I brought it to the dealer and he said not to worry about it. A bit over a year later it is still working fine with no further damage.

Pam,
Needs to be said... Don't forget to turn OFF the breaker before you unplug as well.
