Just a general question. I'm not close to my rv to test this so will ask the question of the general rv population. Will my front landing gear work with the battery disconnected and the rv 12v power cable plugged into my tow vehicle?
It may receive power, but I wouldn't recommend it. You don't say which type of RV you have, but assuming it's a 5th wheel, since you used the term 'landing gear'. If that's the case, the landing gear draws a lot of current and will most likely not be very happy with the small amount of current it can draw through the umbilical.
Your best bet is to take a fully charged battery with you.

On our Wildcat the front electric landing gear would work with the 12 volt switch off as they were directly wired to the battery. I put in a separate switch which I mounted inside the front compartment so I could turn them off.
To much amp loss......most landing gear have a 30 or 40 amp fuse, so that tells you they use a heavier gauge wire than what's in the cord, and a lot shorter run
I have used mine a couple times when the battery was completely dead just off the truck. Could not tell a difference in power loss.

Me too. I just got my fiver back from warranty work and my original battery was toast. Twice last season the slides wouldn't even move without being plugged into my truck. Converter obviously had/has problems.

To go back to the original question the true answer goes simply to how is your particular unit is wired. If there is not wiring going from your landing gear to your TV wiring with light the battery then it won't work. There are different configurations dependent on several factors.
