Propane leak detector

We have a 12 volt LP detector mounted in front lower portion of our 5th wheel. Is it possible for these to become faulty? I've heard it going off while stopped when the gas is on for the frig. Also had it go off in the middle of the night when the water heater was switched on. I don't smell propane and I hosed down most of the connections with soapy water with no results. Any ideas?

Yes. I just installed a new one and on it's label it specifically states replace every 5 years. Check Amazon.com for a replacement if it is one of the recess mounted ones. If surface mount then any RV store will sell one.

You can aim a butane lighter at it, don't light the flame, just press the gas relief, and that should cause it to go off. Some propellant in hair sprays, perfumes, etc., and other stuff will set it off. Also a low battery will cause it to beep on and off.
