Protecting AC condensor

I just had my 1 year old Domestic AC condensor fins combed because of hail damage. The thing is- the hail storm wasn't that severe, but the damage to the fins was.

I want to find a way to protect them.

I'm considering putting some kind of mesh or fine expanded metal grating in the shroud.

Has anyone tried something like this?

Not out to reinvent the wheel.

Don't get to carried away with fine mesh screen, that a/c needs air flow!
