Replacement for shear bolt on P30001 Powerwinch lift system

I was raising the roof on our 2007 Flagstaff popup and the bolt that the cable spools around sheared off the P300001 Powerwinch and the roof came crashing down.

I have called the manufacturer, and a company that sells that winch and neither carry that bolt, because the winch has been discontinued.

The motor runs fine so I would hate to have to replace the whole winch just because I can't locate the bolt.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone would be able to point me in the right directly.

Fastenal is who I would try.

If you have both halves ... go to ACE Hardware, Lowes, or Home Depot ... they all carry assortments of fastners.

Thank you. I didn't know if this bolt is specific to this winch. I will take it to Ace and let you know what I find out.

I went to Ace, Fastenal, and Home Depot and didn't receive much assistance. I have asked a local trailer company to ask their suppliers for help. Camping World also said that I would most likely have to replace the entire winch because this equipment is no longer available.

I have attached a couple of pictures of the part I am trying to replace.

It looks like I should be able to drill out the part of the bolt that shear off in the pinion. I am thinking of either trying that or finding someone to weld the part back on.

Is that item 21 on the link below? If so, that is not a shear bolt.

Carefree is the company that sold these. Have you contacted their support folks?

Maybe that same shaft is used in another of the Powerwinch products and you can still purchase it. Good luck!

The center part could be a steel bar of the same diameter with a hole drilled thru the center the same size as the two threaded ends.

Any machine shop could make that then all you need is a grade 8 bolt to go thru to hold it all together.

I did reach out to carefree and they said this winch is discontinued and they no longer care any parts for it. Thanks for the manual. The part is item 6 the cable shaft part number P9107400AJ. That helps a lot!

It does look like something a machine shop would be able to make as well. That was going to be my last resort.

Thanks for all of the help!

You're welcome. I remember I had a boat trailer Powerwinch that had a defective brake. It sat in my attic forever and I trashed it 2 years ago when we went full timing. Makes me wonder if it had the same shaft in it.
Anyway, hope it doesn't cost too much to have one built. Here's a thought...sometimes local high schools and Tech schools will make things like that for the cost of materials. Back when I worked maintenance in a paper bag factory, we would make things like that, for ourselves and friends, at night when the bosses weren't around!

It would be good practice for an apprentice.

I could get lucky and find someone that has the same winch with a bad motor. Our next trip wont be until end of July so I still have a couple of weeks to search.

Yup. That's what I was thinking.

If I still had that old winch, I would give you the part, assuming it was the same. Good luck!

I am excited to say that Carefree of Colorado went above and beyond in helping me with yhe replacement parts. We had called there a few times prior without any luck, but we didnt have the part number of the piece we needed to replace. After someone on this tread provided me with the manual, I was able to email them the information and attached pictures of the cable shaft. I received a response the same day and an order was place soon after. They also went above and beyond by sending me the parts at no charge. We have installed the new parts and the winch is back in working order.

Thanks everyone for their contributions on this tread. This was the first time I have reached out on a forum. It was my last resort and in the future it will be my first action.

Thanks and enjoy your summer.

Kewl! Glad to hear you got the part and got your winch fixed. Like the saying "two heads are better than one", this forum provides many heads and a wealth of knowledge. Happy camping!

I too have had winch issues and Carefree stood behind their product. Great customer service.
