Unhappy Replacement keys?

So our 2011 Salem 36BHBS camper was a repo and only came with one key, This key locked/unlocked the doors as well as the compartments. I was going around emptying the compartments and broke the key... super. The numbers on the key are 1681 F1C3 but I was told these are just for the blanks? There is no code stamped on any of the locks. What's the best way to get this situation taken care of?

Amazon.com: FIC3 1681 RV Key Blank: Home Improvement

If you still have both pieces, bring to a locksmith so he can cut a new one hopefully...

Roll into any camper dealership with a parts/service department. They'll have precut keys right on the rack. There's only a finite number of the double sided keys (that blank is a double sider) that fit the common trailer locks and compartments so you may need to buy a few and return what doesn't fit. Most of the double-sided key lock cylinders don't have the code on them like the old CH-keys.

I called around to the dealerships in the area here, none have pre-cut keys. They said there should be a number on the key, which is the blank number, and they can cut a key from that. So I guess it looks like I'm going to be replacing my locks unfortunately.

Call your local lock smith and tell him the situation. He/she might be able to help and not have to purchase all new locks. If they can retrieve the broken half it would not be hard to make a copy for you. Lock smiths have ways to measure cut depths and machines that can cut locks with out using existing keys.

x2. A pair of precision-work needle-nose pliers might be able to retrieve it too.

Hard to believe they don't have cut keys!!! My local dealer, who I loathe but has a nice parts stock, has a rack that sits right on the parts counter with about 18 standard keys.

You *might* be able to call FR with your VIN# and find out what locks they were using at the time too.

Hope you sort it soon!

Is the compartment open that you broke the key off in. Take the lock off and take it to a locksmith. He can get the key out and make a new one for you.

If that is the old HF series you can buy all available key codes for $56. Same for the newer CW series. Then resell all the keys you don't need for $1 each on ebay...

First link below is for HF, 2nd one is for CW:

I did the same thing but was able to get the piece out. I also have a spare. I am working with the local lock smith but he is having a hard time finding the right blank.

I always thought keys to RV's were pretty standard. How many pop up owners have a #701 and a #751 key? And those are just pop up numbers. I thought the same was true for other RV's as well.

Worst case scenario is you replace the locks. Just to be clear. Your talking about a door lock and not all of the compartment locks on the outside right? I would hope again that the outside compartment locks would be fairly common #'s.

Vin.

A buddy of mine lost his keys to his 5th wheel. I let him borrow mine, from a motorhome that was about 5 years newer, and it worked. He had it copied.

I might ask the parts department or a salesmen if they can find one from a different unit to work and then make copies.

Take the lock off the door, there is a number of the key inside. You can order the keys from the posted web site.

Your outdoor shower should be a 751 key
