Replacing Foam Hand Grip

I purchased the Stromberg Carlson Replacement Foam Grip part # FP-1001-R for their Lend-A-Hand hand rail. I can’t find any instructions online about how to install it. Do you need to completely remove the handle brackets?

Yes remove and clean tubing of all old grip! Now spray water inside new grip and on tube, start to install! Best to have a "HELPER" and to make it very easy have helper shoot a "LITTLE Air" into the grip as you feed the grip along the tube! PS Have the Helper use a Air Compresser and small nozzle,Not thier Mouth! Youroo!!

Not the whole bracket just the bolt that holds the handle to the bracket.

Thanks "itat" for posting with the link. I need to replace mine and now I know where to get the grip. Squirrels have chewed (I've seen them) mine up along with chewing two holes in my LP line. LP line problem solved by placing a clothes washer discharge hose over my LP hose.

I suppose my Lend -A-Hand could be a later version because that referenced kit with the shown hex head bolts and nuts is what mine has. The self locking nuts are recessed in the bottom of the bracket (not contained inside the bracket). I suppose I should have mentioned this in my post. My bad.

Ours is the same bubbles.
We took ours off and turned it upside down for better grip/clearance for the grandkids.
There was no need to remove the mounting brackets, just the bolts referenced in the link.

I'm not at the trailer now but I think the top and bottom brackets are secured with 2 screws each. I don't think there is cover piece that can be removed. It think the brackets are a single molded piece of black plastic.

Sounds like I need to remove the 4 screws securing the brackets to the side of the trailer and take the whole thing off? If so, can I use something like Geocel ProFlexRV as a sealant when re-mounting the brackets?

This is the only pic I can find of my brackets. There appears to be a small hole at the bottom. I wonder if that's a pry hole to pry off a cover or just a drain hole?

On the older units they had a Drain hole, after you remove yours you will notice why they have the drain! Water used to pool under the Spring /Bolt area and Pump Dirty Water when the Handel was lifted and released! Youroo!!

When my foam went bad, I went down to the bicycle shop and bought white handlebar wrap. Took 2 minutes to wrap and lasted years.

I also use it on other things such as the handles on my wheel barrow etc. No more splinters and it stays cool.

Use pool noodles

Not really an answer to your question, but what we do to so we don’t have replace the foam. We cut a slice thru a pool noodle and place it over the foam when camper is not in use. Going on four years and foam is like brand new. The noodle deteriorates from the sun, but we just replace it every few months.

We don't bother dealing with the old foam. Just wrpped the whole thing including the old foam with "hockey tape" - the stuff they put on hockey sticks. Available in shops or Amazon. Very rugged, good grip, and easy to change.

I had seen that some people just wrap it in tape. I just prefer the foam.

When I’ve replaced the grips on my motorcycle I’ve used a little liquid dish soap on the inside of the grip and it lubricates it enough to slide on easily. Then when it dries it becomes like a glue. I might try that.
