Retracting Steps

My step assembly is less than a year old. When the steps retract, it retracts all the way, but gives 4 loud clunking noises when it retracts all the way up?? Kind of like the teeth on the gear are missing. Anybody had this problem. This is on a Georgetown 374. Gary

Had the same problem with my 2009 Georgetown 374. Turned out the bolt holding the gear was loose and ready to fall out. Easy fix, Just laid down on my back under the steps with a socket set took out the bolt added some locktight and reinstalled. Then put some white greese on the gear and haven't had any issues since although I do check to make sure the bolt hasn't loosened up every so often.

Of course in your case you may want to wait till July, when the snow melts! Sorry but I couldn't resist !

I'll have to check mine tomorrow. Mine sometimes runs smooth as can be, other times it's so jerky I'm expecting it to stop at the half open point. I've looked under there but never noticed anything loose. Guess it's time to take a socket to everything under there.
We only had a 1/2" of snow this morning!!!!

Thanks for the tip, I will check it out. That bolt was totally broke when I picked it up from the dealer, so have had many issues with the steps, but had a new assembly installed last year.
I fail to see the humor regarding the snow!Hopefully by July it will be better.

But just remember by July it will be 95+F down here with humidity near 100% and you will be enjoying MN.
That's why come July 16th we are heading to the NorthWest for a 60 day extended vacation. Hopefully they won't deceide when I get back to work in September that they can get along just fine without me.

I know you guys are talking about MH steps, but have any of you TT or 5th wheel type have your folding steps flop out while traveling?

While on a very bumpy section of I-81 coming out of Sautnton, VA a trucker pulled up and said, "your steps are down."

Well that blew me away since I always do a thorough pre-departure and we had stopped for gas (where I always do a walk around).

Niether my wife or I went in since the tanks had been flushed and empty for the last leg home.

Only the bottom two steps were out.
The big top step was firmly in the frame.
