Roller blind re-tensioning

The roller blinds in our 2019 Forester 2291S are limp, the only way to roll them back up is to reach up and manually turn the roll. The small one in the kitchen works properly, so I know they should.

There is slot in the end you could put a blade screwdriver in, but no idea if that's the way to do it.


Dealer is a 3 hour drive away so any help appreciated.

Hello, they're should be a gray adjustment wheel on one end of the shade under the valance. Just turn it clockwise or counterclockwise until the shade goes up quicker. I can't remember which direction makes it quicker. Hope this helps

If they are MCD shades the screwdriver slot on the left side is to adjust tension. The right hand on is the up limit. It will take quite a few turns to add sufficient tension.
There is also a small hole at 12 o-clock above the slot. Adding a small sheet metal screw through this hole into the back piece will prevent the tension from releasing on it's own in the future. This seems to randomly occur on the wider blinds.

you didn't say what brand of blinds you have! if they are the slo-rise blinds they are made by irvine blind and shade in elkhart indiana. go to their web site and there are instruction on how to adjust them. there are two adjustable wheels on one end of the blinds that control how fast they operate.

Thanks, but afrain no grey adjustment wheel, just the screwdriver looking slot

Just replaced the end caps on one of mine with the new metal ones that have a set screw.

The loss of tension is from the plastic end caps working loose. Hopefully the new metal with set screw will solve that for our large one.

Should be clockwise to turn that slot on the left side to increase the spring load.
