RV Toilet Paper

I think I will try the water softener this summer, and also regular TP. I really hate the stuff you buy for the RV, it is really terrible.

Angel Soft or Costco TP seems to work (breakdown) for us...

My Parents are Avid RV'rs and I am just getting into it - was told Angel Soft as well instead of buying RV toilet paper
I bought a 4 pack of Scott RV Toilet paper but was told I should bring it back unless I like wiping with my hand cause as soon as it hits any liqued it falls apart lol

I will be trying the Calgon treatment once my TT arrives - was told today it will be here middle of next week and should be possibly delivering the following weekend

We use Angel Soft with no problems. We do use the Calgon water softener.

Depends on what kinda dump you are referring too.

Seriously, I put the Calgon in my tank when I add a couple of gallons of water before heading out on a trip. I always want some water in the tank before the 1st solids go in. With a couple of gallons sloshing around along with the Calgon going down the road, I am counting on that to thoroughly coat my tank.

I only use a capfull or 2 when adding Calgon.

Wet Wipes, even being septic safe, can cause issues as well. 1 trick I do after a weekend is to dump my leftover ice in the toilet to help break things up on the way to the dump station.

Use whatever TP you like, either on the way to the next campground or when you leave home the next time dump a big bag of ice into the holding tank by the time you get to the campground any remaining TP is beat to pieces and will come right out.

Inquiring minds would like to know more stuff.....

1. Calgon Water Softener powder does soften water and makes cleaning out your black tank the solids better.

2. Which TP do you use and is the cheapest?
Scotts Walmart?
COSTCO bulk cheap stuff?
The stuff the bears use and doesn't anything behind!
Regular everyday home TP?

OK, after an exhaustive 3 month test in our 5th wheel using one roll each of every kind of TP we could find; and watching through the clear elbow on every tank dump; the results are in.

While dry camping with routine black tank dumps to a "blue boy" (every 4 days or so) with no opportunity to use turboflush due to I have to haul that water a quarter of a mile and haul the black water almost the same distance to the dump station ....

NO DIFFERENCE in TP (IN THE TANK). All TP used exited just fine when dumped regularly. BIG difference before it GETS in the tank (if you get my drift). We are going for comfort now.

Solids are the major issue; not the paper. Paper not sticky; solids are.

Since water usage is minimized and turboflush is not used "much", Calgon Liquid Water SOFTENER (not Calgon Laundry soap) is critical. After dumping, a cup of Liquid Calgon Softener and a few squirts of dish wash soap or a quarter cup of laundry soap lets most of the solids leave on the next dump.

Now having said that; it really does depend on how your campground manages THEIR septic system. If they use a city sewer, no worries. If they use a septic system or sand mound then they most likely would appreciate you using septic safe TP.

Just FYI for those who may not be aware: We purchase our TP at Costco (Kirkland brand) - cheap, septic tank friendly and passes the "sheet of TP in a glass of water" test.

Glad you mentioned about the different waste systems that campgrounds might have, and I will definitely keep that in mind!!!!
