I agree. I have HD Directv service at home and just take 2 recievers from home. 1 coax cable from the dish to the TT, and, usually the TT cables are good enough because the "runs" are not very long.
The hard part is setting up the large oval 5 LNB sat dish to get a clear view of all 5 sats. (DW's idea of roughing it would be standard def. especially since the TT came with HD television). I have even had to put the dish as far away as 75 feet and run a cable through the woods without any noticable adverse reduction in signal quality.
I have also considered the Rv mounted "auto find" systems ($$$$) but, your at the mercy of where you are parked. If your under trees blocking the line of sight to the sats., then your stuck with no sat. television.
And as I understand, the portable units will not recieve Directv's HD programming (only SD) but, will recieve DISH's HD programming. However, I don't believe DISH has as many HD channels as Directv because they don't utilize all of the HD satellites.

It all comes down to your level of television comfort.
