Question Screwing tv bracket to wall

I want to screw a tv bracket to my bedroom wall in my fifth wheel. The tv bracket is the type that you can take the tv down when you are towing. Will the wall support it and do I have to find one of the aluminum studs.

Finding suitable support for a television on an RV wall is iffy at best. There is no such thing as 16 inch on centers for the studs in the RV industry, so personally i would not attempt it.

You are not going to like the answer.

Not only are the walls hollow, they are only 3/32 inch thick plywood.

The mount without the TV would pull out over time.

If you can catch an aluminum tube, you might (and I am not confident) get away with it, but that aluminum is SOFT.

One way to beat the Interior RV wall issue is similar to the way they fish bolts through frame holes. Attach a wire to a small 3/4 inch thick block of plywood (just big enough to fit through the AC outlet hole) and "fish" the block to where you want to put one of the mounting screws. Have a friend (using flat head screws) screw fasten the block of wood to the back side of the interior wall. Do another block for the lower arm mounting screws. Then you will have a sturdy wood substrate to screw into and spread the weight over a large 2x3 inch say block of wood.

Exterior walls are filled with Styrofoam and need to be blocked during construction.

In theory, I suspect.

Yea, in theory. I still have the mount I bought sitting in the garage.
Khanks if you do try it let me know how it works out.

I told you you weren't going to like it.

Does your RV have a spot where something was already mounted or could be? In mine it came with a folding shelf that would support an optional Tube type TV. I am in the process of replacing it with a tilt and swivel bracket. I spoke to the dealer about it and he told me the blocking was there and it would not be a problem BUT becareful. He said that sometimes the blocking isn't attached or secured inside the wall. He has had the blocking fall to bottom of the wall when the last screw was removed. You can tap the interior walls to determine if there is any blocking inside the wall.

Another method, if you don't find blocking, is to tap the wall to find the studs then attach a 1/2 or 3/4 piece of plywood that is wide enough to span the distance between 2 studs. I've done this mounting some closet rods in the bedroom.

Good luck.

I replaced the shelf when the TV was supposed to go with a TV bracket I got from WalMart. I found that there is a stud there, (Interior bedroom wall, not the outside wall) and mounted it. The 15 inch flat screen TV stays hanging there all the time. I just lock it in place...never a problem. I did make sure there was a stud there though.

In my new fifth wheel in the bedroom there is a sticker on the wall next to the plug and the tv hookup that states TV BACKEN LOCATION,Do you think that would be a spot for the tv bracket. The wall is very hard right in that area.

That sounds like the place to mount it to me. Is the solid area large enough for the bracket you want to use? Just push around the wall in that area, you'll easily be able to determine the size of the backer the factory installed.
