Shear pins

Was looking to replace the sheer pins on my 2010 3400 rl. Broke one on my landing gear the last time out. I bought extra planning to replace the ones on the slides. Just a little preventative medicine. The first one I checked out was rusted solid and the nut was stripped so it wouldn’t come off. I decided to just wait and let them do their job and worry about a broken pin when it happens. (I think I carry all the tools needed to change one out) is this a bad choice on my part? What would you do?

I'd do like you're doing.

The only reservation I would have is getting the old one out and lining up the holes to put the new one in if you wait until it shears. However, that's not enough of a reservation to make me go out and replace mine.

Personally i would do it at home where you have the time to take your time and not while you're sitting in your camping spot on vacation . once they break getting the hole lined up is no big deal with a helper to operate the slide . once it shears you will have a chunk of it stuck in there and can be a pain to get out if it's been rusted good . i would do it now and carry spare shear pins/bolts .
