Shore Power
Once you are set up at the camp site and plug into power can you disconnect the battery. Does the battery supply power to anything else except jacks?

inside lights as well since they are running off of 12Volts as well

That's kinda what I thought too, but last weekend I was doing a mod to the lights above the bed. I disconnected the battery thinking I was cutting power to them but they remained on. The only way I could get them off was to disconnect from the house power.

You should have a breaker in your panel labeled "Converter". Turn that off and the 12V side will be off. Saves having to unplug from 120V.
OTOH, why would you want to disconnect your battery? While you are on shore power, your converter is keeping your battery charged. And, if there is a large need for 12V, your battery is there to assist your converter.

Just as a side note; you will eventually burn out your converter if you do disconnect the battery, because the converter is built to charge the battery and provide 12volts to many different systems in your camper. It will be trying in vain to charge something that isn't there, and they aren't cheap or easy to replace, either. Best bet to leave it connected, and keep distilled water in it to the top of the plates. Just my humble opinion! Randy

Rather than mess with cables every time I need to work on the electrical system I put in a disconnect switch when I rewired the battery compartment.
Also using a high voltage de-sulphating 4 stage charger I would disconnect to avoid running 12 volt dc appliances at de-sulphating voltages.

do u have one of those big red keys near ur fuse box? doesn't that disconnect the converter and all but the slide outs and maybe the jacks from the battery?
still don't know why u would want to disconnect...unless ur wanting to change the bat; it also acts as a filter.
if u have this switch, u can disconnect the pos lead of the battery (with shore power disconnected) then plug back in and check for voltage at the disconnected lead. that should let u know if that disconnect really isolates it from the fuse panel and converter/charger.

I don't believe this is true.
The charger is loafing when nothing is connected so it
won't over heat and "burn out".
OTOH, I see no good reason to disconnect the battery
unless you are permanently parked and full timing.
Not even sure if you'd need to do it then.
Just check the water ever couple months.

I had questions about that one as well. I wanted to see if any of our electrical engineers would chime in on that one. The converter should hum (  ) along just fine without a battery installed.

We stay in our trailer at our hobby farm, where we store the trailer. I often have the battery disconnected while using shore power. The battery is on a maintainer and it is too much hassle to lug it back and hook it up. Been doing that for 3 years with no trouble whatsoever.

Hi Ky Dan. While I agree with you if your'e not using the camper and disconnect, I do however feel that when operating any 12v using things in the camper in this state WILL put an excessive strain on the converter, and therefore EVENTUALLY burn it up. I know for sure on my unit, I had a battery that was low on H20, and the lights would "surge" bright and dim, and the converter's fan would come on a lot more than normal. And I have heard of others on here-(more than one) that didn't think they needed a battery, because they ALWAYS camped under power, so they took out the battery, and burned up the WFCO converter in 3 or 4 trips' That's why I say that. The dealer also recommends keeping the battery in there, as designed. That's my opinion on the subject, at least! Randy
