Slideout/Manual Retract

I have a 08, 283GTS Lexington,it has 3 electric slides.My question is,is it possible to retract the slides if I have power or electric motor failure? The dealer said that I could hold the IN/OUT switch in and have someone on the outside push the slide in.Will this work? Thanks,I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.

Welcome to FRF PJ73USAF, If the power fails and you can not operate your slides with the switch I don't understand how it would work by holding in the in/out switch and having someone push the slide in. With no power the switch is now disabled. I seems to me that a manual hand crank should have been supplied.

Welcome PJ. The guidance you received from the dealer sounds hokey to me. If your motor is not working, holding the switch down won't do you any good. And pushing a slide against a screw-drive mechanism just won't work.

You should have a manual crank supplied with the trailer. If not, hit up your dealer.

Is it possible that your electric motors are driving a hydraulic pump that move your slides? Or have you actually seen the screw drives that move them?

Since you are not getting good advice from your dealer, I would suggest calling your manufacturer.

Thanks for the replies,I'll follow up with the service manager and contact Forest River on this matter.My dealers explanation didn't make any sense to me either that's why I thought I'd ask here.Thanks again!

you should be able to crank them in on the drive motor also they do work on 12v or at least mine does in case of power failure

Thanks,I did contact FR,they advised that there is a 5/8" nut on the electric motor that can be turned to retract the slide.

just use the 5/8 hex with a ratchet, if you dont have a supplied extension wrench for this purpose, may take a while , be patient.

manual suggests that power/wiring should be disconnected during manual operation. turning clockwise manually should retract i think it said. be careful at end stops to not overtighten with the ratchet wrench, normally when done with motor there is a torque control or limit switch to stop at ends.
