!st trip 2012

Just got back from the first trip for 2012, only for 3 nights, but loved it. The weather was great in florida of course. Coming home to Vero Beach we lost a trailer tire that blew out. We were on the Fl. Turnpike and used the Road Ranger service, we were only down for about 50 minutes and the guy had us on the way. Igive the guy a tip because it was free for me and the service was great. On Thursday I had checked all the tires and air pressure, but I guess they were starting to give alittle. So before any more trips it will be 4 brand new skids for the V-Lite, and awaywe will go. Just remember if you get stranded on Fl. Turnpike call Star FHP.

I know Road Rangers are all over the interstates as well as the turnpike.
If I am not mistaken it is actually a service of Florida Department of Transportation - FDOT for short

Florida Road Rangers - Coastland Auto Center, Inc. - FDOT, Florida Department of Transportation Road Rangers Program

they give you a map of where they service

Thanks for that. I had never heard of them. Sounds like a wonderful thing.

But that website is confusing.
It says:
"This site is not affiliated in any way with FDOT. It is not an FDOT web-site."

And then right after that it says:
"Welcome to Florida Road Rangers Virtual Office. Florida Road Rangers is a free service offered by the Florida Department of Transportation."

I saw that too
I see them helping people on the side of the road all the time either on the turnpike or on Interstate 4 (I4)

The state law is you have to pull into the other lane when they or law enforcement is on the side of the road with the lights on but seems like most people around here ignore that law - too bad the troopers dont pull people over more for it though.

I have never used them and hope I dont but they are there to help

Not sure though if they can help much on the Motor Home side but have enough for the car, truck and suv.

That's awesome. Kudos to them for having that.
I agree about moving to the other lane. Its law where I live too.

To LFugate we stayed at Tropical Palms on hwy 192 in Kissimmee, Fl. . If you have ever been to the area it is behind Old Town. Nice park that handles every thing from large coaches to tent camping, very clean and courteous. We go there for short getaways or a weekend. It is about two hours for us from Vero Beach which is south. On Saturday nights they have the old clasic cars and hot rods on display and a cruise.

Ovair the road ranger service is not a program of FHP, but you have to call them for them to dispatch a service truck.

Yea, we stayed at that park a couple years ago. We loved Old Town and the car shows they had on Fri and Sat night. They had some some shops there my wife liked too. We did 6 theme parks in 7 days, so we didn't spend much time at the camp. Seemed like a nice CG though.

I live in Saint Cloud (about 25 minutes east of Old Town) and know exactly where that camp ground is - my parents came from Ocala and stayed there for a few days when the FMCA had a small rally there.

I am surprised you dont go to Long Point - that place is pretty nice

Longpoint

I live about 10 or 12 miles from Longpoint and I am not going to hook up just to go that far to camp. It is a nice place to camp but since I live near the beach and river I go inland. I have several friends that camp up there all the time.
