Stabilizer jack paint peeling
The paint is peeling off the front "driver side" stabilizer jack and it looks rusty underneath the paint. The camper is a 2020 Rockwood Premier 2514g tent trailer. Brand new in July. Noticed it a couple weeks ago. It's under warranty but I'm just curious what would cause this on a brand new camper.

Stabilizer jack paint peeling
Bad paint prep and water got underneath paint. Paint may have got chipped by rock and water got behind paint.
Wire brush it and get can spray paint and be done with it.

^^^^^^ This.
Plus, when metal is cleaned of rust as much as possible use some "Naval Jelly" on the cleaned surfaces. It will leave behind a phosphate coating that will help the new paint stick.
Everyone has their favorite paint for stuff like this, mine is Rust Oleum.
For a lasting paint job disassemble as much as possible so rust in joints is removed and metal covered with paint. Otherwise it will just start rusting at edges of paint and peel again.
BTW, my jacks are doing the same (except the one I replaced). When they get bad enough I'm just going to replace. New one has a much better paint/powder coat finish and no sign of paint peeling. New jack also has a much better screw and bearing than the cheap OE ones.

Ive used Rustoleum High Temp Engine Enamel on lots of frames, tongues, jacks, wheels with solid results. Just wire brush and clean with alcohol or brake cleaner.

I'm amazed at the amount of rust on the jack, for a 3 month old camper.

It may be 3 months old to you but probably was made over a year ago. The jacks are then closer to 2 years. I'm with ya though. Still hate to see it. BTW, this is the stuff I use. It has been 4 years on the little trailer frame with no touch up.

I'm going to have forest river replace it since it's under warranty. But good to know for future repair when the warranty is up.

Don't know for sure but mine look like the parts were merely dipped in paint after they came from the forming press. Nobody bothered to clean the metal and prep it so paint would stick.
The replacement jack I had to purchase due to an "accident" is coated far more professionally even though it too is made in Chinal. My plan if to just use the existing jacks until they rust up enough that they're difficult to use and replace them with more of the same I got as a replacement.
The new jack (a "Cynder" brand name from Amazon) has a much better thrust bearing on the screw and the screw is plated with much better machined threads. Even better, the nut and screw shaft are straight. Doesn't wiggle my wrist as much when running the jack up and down. Way things are going I'll be replacing next spring.
Funny thing, the Cynder jacks are $2 less than the Lippert jacks on Amazon and when compared side by side after a season the Lipperts look like rusty crap and the Cynder, when wiped clean, looks like it just came out of the box.
Just my experience with two jacks on the same TT, both in the same position (front).

Would this stuff also work on my TV hitch receiver?

Yessir! I actually do mine every fall. Well, not the whole thing. Just the area around where the chains hook and the hitch opening. The areas that take a beating. Tape and newspaper wisely and clean & paint.

I just took a wire brush, got loose stuff off. Sprayed with graphite lube. Use it twice a year and it's flat black. Good enough for who it's for!

we have a 2019 235S Roo and the paint came off by end of July. our first season. My wife wire brushed it, and then we sprayed it with the Rustoleum rust spray (that fixes the rust). It didn't look too bad when done. We may spray them black yet but haven't decided .

Paint failure on jacks
My trailer is 18 months old. Paint on jacks began to fail after first season. I believe the metal was never primed properly to begin with. Give them a good scraping, prime them with primer and a coat of Rustoleum. I was shocked to see how much paint came off during scraping process. FR should really
take a look at this. I know they just buy the parts and assemble them but this is a failure that just should not happen this early. Lousy QA. BTW I love my Geo Pro some don't hear this as a general complaint.

And another thing that bothered me about the jacks on a brand new camper is that after a couple of uses I noticed that the screw mechanism is really squeaky when jacking them up and down. Is there a grease or oil that'll help that?

Use a thpe of "dry" lubricant such as graphite. Any grease that stays gooey or wet will attact grit, grime, and stuff that will clog up the threads requiring more cleaning.
On my surveyor, the 2 jacks on the passenger side are rusty including the threads. the 2 on the drivers side are nice and clean and the threads have no rust. Threads on both sides get graphitd.

I have the same issue on all four of mine. My trailer is only a year old. I think they bought some cheap Chinese stabilizers. I sprayed some Boeshield T9 on them hoping to slow down the process.

Seems like a common complaint on the newer trailers. Cheap paint prep on cheap material. Thinking of replacing all 4 with a heavier upgrade. More integrity and powder coated finish. Cleaned and repainted 1. The others not worth my time in my opinion.
