striker plate misaligned

Hello, well all appeared well with new camper until we went to lock the door with the deadbolt, I just used handle at dealership. The cutout and striker plate are about 1/2-3/4 inches to high. I am thinking of pulling off the striker plate and enlarging the cutout, cutting the bottom down by another 3/4 inches or less. Anyone with a similar problem or suggestion for a fix? I think my dremel tool may be the best tool for this, small controlled cuts....

The striker plate on ours can be reversed, i.e. turned so the orig top is the bottom. The cutout in the striker plate is not symetrical, longer on one end than the other.

I think I know exactly what is wrong.
I had the very same problem with my door.

If you have a piston closer on your door remove it.
Your door will work perfectly.

That darn thing is over pressured and twists the door in the frame until the hinges bend.

I thought the piston closer was "the cat's meow" until I saw how much damage it did to the rig. Hope you get your issue resolved soonest.

Ok, problem resolved but it involved another step.... I had to make to door notch lower to move the striker plate down. I used a dremel tool and cut it twice in small increments to avoid messing it up. Next I had to deepen the door frame cut out in order for the deadbolt to fully extend in to the lock out position. So far this is the only problem I have found with the new rig. Wife and I camped in the driveway last night for a test run and everything else is working fine. Due to cold weather here we have not been able to charge the water system though so that will be the last thing to be checked at the end of the month.......

Had the same problem at one time, though not as pronounced as you seem to have. The solution was: 1) loosen the screws on the striker plate and slide it was far as you can in the direction needed - tighten screws; 2) loosen the screws on the lock assembly (inside) slide it around, trying to get the deadbolt to engage; 3) if that solves the problem tighten the screws.

yep, had to drop the plate over 1/2 in almost 3/4.....
